Fine fourth for NDC

Women’s team takes a big step forward with performance at Walsh invite

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Notre Dame women's team placed fourth in an eight-team field over a muddy course in Saturday's Walsh Invitational.  (Men's Results | Women's)

#Kristin Karn#, #Fran Melzer# and #Mary Volk# all ran times that rank among the program's Top-10 for a 5K race. Karn led the way for NDC - she placed 13th in the event, with a time of 20:00 (third, NDC history). Melzer and Volk added the program's sixth- and seventh-best times, respectively, with finishes of 21:00 and 21:07.

The Notre Dame women's team earned 109 points in the race. Malone won the event handily, with 15 points. Finishing in second and third, respectively, were Ashland (84 points) and Walsh (86).

“I'm really proud of our girls,” said Head Coach #Ricardo Franklin#. “They really bounced back well from what was a disappointing meet last week at Bowling Green.”

The NDC women finished 15th of 15 teams in last week's Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green State University.

On Saturday only three athletes from the men's team competed, as the coaching staff opted to rest several top runners for the upcoming American Mideast Conference Championships (Nov. 7). The top finisher for the Falcon men was junior runner #Randy Street# - he placed 20th, with a time of 29:14 in the 8K.
