The triple-duals marked Notre Dame's first dual competition of the season. Last year, the nationally-ranked (No. 2 NAIA Coaches') Falcons went 10-5 in 15 duals. NDC's meeting with Ohio State marked the third between the two programs. The duals against Cleveland State and Findlay represented the first meetings between the Falcons and Vikings and Oilers.
The Wrestling Falcons defeated Cleveland State, 42-3, in their first match. NDC took nine of the 10 bouts in their first meeting with the Vikings. NDC then lost to the Buckeyes, 37-3, before beating Findlay, 31-9.
Foore picked up a quick pin (0:42) in his first bout of the day, a win over CSU's Gahad Suleiman. The transfer from Eastern Michigan then scored NDC's only win against the third-ranked (InterMat, Nov. 17) Buckeyes, when he earned an impressive 7-2 win over Cody Magrum. The Wadsworth, Ohio, native then rounded out his afternoon with a 10-0 major against Findlay's Dan Stevenson. With his three wins on Sunday, Foore's 2009-10 record now stands at 10-0.
Six NDC grapplers (#Alex Denman#, #Kevin Hardy#, #Adam Kobala#, #Jeffrey Pelton#, #Tyler Savage#, #Orlando Scales#) earned two victories on the day. Hardy (165 pounds) and Scales (HWT) highlighted those efforts, with each collecting two pins. Pelton also had a notable performance - the sophomore from Bellevue, Ohio, picked up two major decisions on the mats at St. John. He joins Foore with a perfect record in 10 bouts this season and is currently the No.3-ranked wrestler at 149 in the NAIA.
Notre Dame will be off next week and return to action Dec. 5, when they travel to Rochester, N.Y., to compete in the RIT Invitational, hosted by the Rochester Institute of Technology.
