WHEELING, W.Va -- It had been 40 days since the Falcons’ swim team last participated in an event, but the long layoff did not affect NDC, as the women took first place in Saturday’s dual-meet at Wheeling Jesuit and the men finished second. (

Notre Dame’s women placed first in the three team field ahead of Wheeling Jesuit University and Wilmington College, while the men finished second behind Wheeling Jesuit. It was NDC’s first meet since the Carroll Classic on Dec. 5, where the women came just two points short of a first place finish.
The men finished with a score of 136, just 12 points behind Wheeling Jesuit, and 60 points in front of Wilmington.
Greg Pristov paced the Falcons, coming away with four medals on the afternoon, including two individual first place finishes in the 200-yard and 100-yard butterfly events.
Patrick McRae and
Cameron McRae came away with four medals as well.
Jacob Lutz finished with a trio of medals, including a first place finish in the 200-yard individual medley. Sophomore
Chris Tuttle placed first in the 1000 and 500-yard freestyle events and captured three medals overall.
Lutz finished the 100-yard breastroke in 1:07.56, which is the third best time in program history.
For the women, there were several standouts contributing to their first place finish. There were five performers that came away with four medals on the afternoon. Sophomore
Emily Whittington paced the Falcons with four gold medals, including individual first place finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke, and the 500-yard freestyle. Three of
Lauryssa Rieger’s medals were golds, while seniors
Kelly O’Connor, and
Shannan Fitzgerald, along with Junior
Caley Miller combined for 12 medals, including five golds.
"Overall, I think the meet went extremely well," said Head Coch
Mike Gallagher. "We have been training very hard and its good to see some great results."
The Falcons are back in action next Saturday, as they take on Oberlin and Ohio Wesleyan.
