SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame notched another dual-meet victory on Sunday, as the Falcons climbed all over Mount St. Joseph, winning at home by a final score of 54 to minus-1.
NDC earned victories in all 10 bouts on the afternoon, in front of their home fans at Murphy Gymnasium. The decisive victory continues the Falcons' dominant season in dual competition - the No. 1-ranked Falcons (NAIA Coaches' Poll) are now 7-1 in eight dual meets this season, with their only loss coming in a road contest at NCAA-I Ohio State.
In their six wins since falling to Ohio State, the Wrestling Falcons have outscored their mat foes, 182-23.
Notre Dame's win also comes on the heels of NDC's historic win at the 2010 NAIA National Duals (Jan. 9-10) and of the Falcons earning four titles at the Jan. 17 Purple Raider Open in Alliance, Ohio.
On Sunday, #Jeffrey Pelton# opened the proceedings by running his season record to 14-0 with a 9-3 decision over Mount St. Joseph's Tommy Fehring, who came into the bout with a 24-9 record.
That would prove to be the closest bout of the day, as Notre Dame would go on collect three forfeits, three pins, one tech fall and one major on the afternoon. NDC got pins by #Derek Foore# at 197, #Dante Rini# at 125 and #Brian Dean# at 133. Foore's pin, his seventh of the season, came in a brief 33 ticks of the time clock.
Sunday's feature bout - No. 1 #Adam Koballa# versus Eric Meyer - was a close one (4-3) until Meyer was whistled for flagrant misconduct at 5:33. Referee Mark Genovese awarded the bout to Koballa and took away one point from the Lions, taking their match total below zero. With the victory, Koballa ran his team-best win-loss record to 24-2.
Notre Dame will return to the mat on Saturday, Jan. 30, with another home dual - a 5 p.m. tilt against Seton Hill (Pa.).
