Warren, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Falcons competed in the fifth and final American Heartland International Bowling Conference tournament over the weekend, and came away with a pretty impressive showing.
The field included a number of very good bowling teams, including Saginaw Valley State University, Wright State University, the Ohio State University, Michigan, Bowling Green State University, University of Toledo, Delta College, Grand Valley State University, Kent State University, Adrian College, Monroe County Community College, Davenport University and Youngstown State University.
The Falcons rolled on the PBA's Cheetah oil pattern. Notre Dame competed in a double elimination tournament, using a best of seven game format in the winners bracket, and a best of five game format in the losers bracket, which included eight Baker games to determine seeding.
For the men, it was their final tournament of the season, and they placed 11th out of 29 teams. NDC won their first match against the OSU White team, and then took Saginaw Valley State University, a national powerhouse, to six games, eventually losing the match 4-2. The Falcons then lost to the OSU Grey team and were eliminated from the tournament.
For the women, it was their last match before they compete at the Allentown (Pa.) sectionals next weekend. The women finished fourth out of nine teams, and were eliminated in the second round of match play. They opened against a strong Davenport University club, and eventually lost in six games, before being eliminated by Adrian College, falling 3-2 in a best of five series.
“Both teams did a great job during the qualifying round of bowling,” said Head Coach #Jeff Robinson#. “We just ran out of gas during match play. I am proud of our performance this weekend.”
The Falcons are off this weekend, but the women will compete in the ITC Sectional Qualifying Tournament on Saturday March 13 and 14, in Allentown, Pa.
