Falcons begin 2010 outdoor season

CINCINNATI – The Notre Dame Track & Field team began their outdoor season on Saturday afternoon at the Early Bird Relays, and came away with a pretty impressive showing. (Results)

On the men's side, #Tim Miller# set a school record with a 45.94 meter toss in the Javelin Throw, placing fifth overall. #Ryan Lockyer# finished second in the Long Jump, with a leap of 6.58 meters, and #Adam Saintz# placed fourth in the 110-Meter Hurdles, with a time of 15.78 seconds. #Jim Boals# finished second in the Discus Throw with a 46.12 meter toss. The team of #Joseph Leyland#, #Demar Sheffey#, #Brandon Tolliver# and #Tom McKrill# ran the 400-Meter relay in 42.86 seconds, also finishing in fourth place.

For the women, #Noelle Johnson# was very impressive in the Long Jump, with an 11.29-meter jump, finishing second overall. #Shawnta Davis# placed third in the 400-Meter Dash with time of 58.70 seconds, and #Jessica Thomas# became a national qualifier in the 100-Meter High Hurdles, finishing the event in 14.90 seconds, good enough for fourth place finish.

"Today was a great start to our outdoor season,” said Head Coach #Rico Franklin#. “We asked our athletes to turn up the intensity and everyone did just that. I'm proud of the way we competed today."

The Falcons are back in action next Friday, March 26, when they head to Wheeling, W.Va., to compete in the Bill Van Horne Invitational.
