SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- At the conclusion of the winter sports season, the NAIA announced their Scholar-Athlete Awards for five sports, and three student-athletes from Notre Dame were recognized on the list.
The three Falcons named scholar athletes by the NAIA were senior #Danny Wright# (Men's Basketbal), junior #Caley Miller# (Women's Swimming & Diving), and junior #Dante Rini# (Wresting).
Wright came to Notre Dame in the fall of 2006. The 6-foot-7 senior from Collins, Ohio, is an accounting major, and came off the bench on coach #Kevin Bille#'s squad this season.
Miller, a native of Fremont, Ohio, came to College Road in the fall of 2007. She is a biology major, and currently holds the program's third-best time in both the 100-Yard Freestyle (56.86) and the 1,650-Yard Freestyle (19:53.80).
Rini was one of 14 National Qualifiers for the Falcon wrestling team, which won the 2010 NAIA National Championship. A native of Massillon, Ohio, Rini is an education major. He went 12-5 this season, with three pin fall victories.
Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify. The NAIA recognized 177 scholar athletes in Women's Basketball, 94 in men's basketball, 55 in Swimming & Diving and 32 in Wrestling.
