Dummermuth set new single-season scoring and rebounding marks for Notre Dame, averaging 22.0 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-6 Dover, Ohio, native averaged 35.7 minutes per contest, shot 57.7 percent (244-for-423) from the field and made 73.6 percent (184-for-250) of his attempts from the free-throw line.
Dummermuth powered the Falcons to an AMC North title and a 19-12 record, earning five AMC Player of the Week awards along the way. The former First Team All-Ohio prep selection posted 20 double-doubles on the season and now has 34 such games in his two seasons on College Road. He was one of 10 AMC players selected to the circuit's First Team.
“Eric made great strides from last season and proved his worth as one of the best players in the league and in my opinion, the nation,” said NDC Head Coach #Kevin Bille#. “He's off to a phenomenal start in his college career, and I know he'll continue to work hard and keep getting better.”
The big forward's wing man was McCartney, who averaged 12.3 points and 4.1 assists per game. The product of Ursuline High School (Youngstown, Ohio) also paced NDC in steals, with an average of 1.9 per game.
“Nick was a very good leader this past season,” said Bille. “He leaves everything out on the floor every time he plays. He did a nice job of facilitating our offense, hitting shots when needed and making big plays on defense.”
Senior guard #Al Miller# earned an honorable mention in the vote among the conference's 12 head coaches. Guard #Will Townsend# was named to the AMC's All-Freshman Team.
“I'm very happy for all four of these guys,” said Bille. All four had great seasons and were a huge part of our success. We had a good year. Anytime you can win games and play in March, you have to be happy. Now, we just need to play a little longer in March to be satisfied.”
In winning the AMC North title, Bille's Falcons played in the AMC Championship Game, losing to No. 1 Walsh.
Walsh forward Ricky Jackson was named the 2009-10 AMC Player of the Year after leading the top-ranked Cavaliers to the AMC title. Jackson, a 6-foot-7 senior from Chicago, Ill., averaged 22.9 points and 8.1 rebounds in his only season at Walsh. He not only was the top vote-getter for the 20-player All-AMC Team, but was also tabbed the league's Newcomer of the Year.
Walsh's Jeff Young was voted the AMC Coach of the Year by his peers. Young will take the Cavaliers to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship Tournament with a record of 28-2 overall. Walsh finished at 15-1 in the AMC.
Shawnee State's Tyler Morgan, a 6-foot-4 forward from Hamersville, Ohio, was named the AMC Freshmen of the Year.
