Falcons compete at AMC Championships

NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Notre Dame Track & Field team performed extremely well over the weekend at the American Mideast Conference Championships, producing 27 All-AMC performers as the men finished third and the women finished fourth. (Results)

Altogether, the Falcons had 10 first place finishes, 52 Top-8 finishes, three national qualifiers, and broke two school records, as well as one AMC Championship meet record. In order to be considered an All-AMC performer, athletes had to finish in first or second in their event, and the Falcons had 27 All-AMC performances.

On the men's side, there were several great performances. #Brandon Brodwolf# won the High Jump with a leap of 1.88-Meters. #Jim Boals# became a national qualifier in the Discus throw with a 50.08 meter toss and won the event. Boals also finished second in the Hammer Throw, with a 42.50 meter toss and was named MVP of the meet in field events. #Tim Miller# took first place in the Javelin Throw, with a 52.04 meter throw, and #Tim Robinson#'s 15.00 meter throw in the Shot Put was good enough to win that event as well. #Demar Sheffey# ran the 200-Meter Dash in 22.42 seconds to win the event, and the team of Sheffey, #Joseph Leyland#, #Tom McKrill#, and #Brandon Tolliver# qualified for nationals after finishing first in the 4x100-Meter Relay.

The Falcon women had four first place finishes over the weekend. #Noelle Johnson# had a huge weekend for NDC, as she set a program record, an AMC Championship meet record, and became a national qualifier in the Long Jump, with a leap of 5.72 meters. The Warrensville Heights, Ohio, native also finished first in the Triple Jump, with a 10.98 meter performance. #Jessica Thomas# took first place in the 100-Meter High Hurdles with a time of 15.07 seconds, and the team of #Lauren Macer#, #Shawnta Davis#, #Ava Woods# and #Tiffany Tucker# finished the 4x100 -Meter Relay in 48.93 seconds to win the event.

“I am very proud of the way we competed this weekend,” said Head Coach #Rico Franklin#. “Our athletes showed a lot of heart and courage and stepped up in so many ways. Overall, this was a great performance.”

The Falcons are back in action next Friday, April 23, when they head to Oberlin, Ohio, to compete in the Bob Kahn Invitational.
