The 18-hole event marked the beginning of a busy stretch for Notre Dame -- between Thursday and April 30, the Falcons are slated to play seven competitive rounds. In Thursday’s round at Mayfield CC, freshman
John Angelo scored his first sub-80 round of the spring, a nifty 71, to lead the Falcons. As a team, NDC fired a 317 to finish 20 strokes behind Malone, which had four players break 80 en route to posting a 297. Grove City placed third, with a score of 328.
The tournament had been scheduled for earlier in the spring (April 8), but it was rained out and rescheduled for Thursday. With their split in the three-team event, the Falcons run their 2009-10 season record to 20-25.
Angelo’s 71, an even-par score over the 6,687 yards of Mayfield CC, marked his second-best score of the season. He was runner-up among 15 contestants in the Fifth Annual NDC Spring Invitational. Malone’s Jay Hollifield carded a 70 to garner medalist honors.
Brooks Steputis (80),
Tony Pinzone (81) and
Dan Elber (85) rounded out the scoring four for the host NDC squad.
