DES MOINES, Iowa -- The resume continues to grow for Michael Mannozzi, as the senior race walker finished ninth in a field of 12 in the 20,000-Meter race walk at the 2010 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships over the weekend. (Results)

The field of 12 included some of the best race walkers in the country, including Tim Seaman, who holds the US record in the event. Mannozzi finished the competition in 1:42:42.98, which was about 13 minutes behind John Nunn of the US Army, who won the event with a time of 1:29:21.60.

Mannozzi was one of just three NAIA competitors in the race. The USATF competition included the best track and field athletes in the country in multiple events, including several Olympians. Of the three NAIA competitors, there were two national champions, and all three earned All-American status.

The Youngstown, Ohio, native qualified for the event by finishing the 20-K race walking event in 1:39:14, which was over 30 seconds better than the qualifying standard of 1:39:50. Mannozzi became the first Notre Dame Track & Field athlete to qualify, compete and place at the USATF National Championships.

“I’m extremely honored to be first track & field athlete from Notre Dame College to compete at the highest level in the United States,” said Mannozzi after finishing the 20-K (12.4 mile) race. “It was an honor to represent the Notre Dame community and a dream come true to compete against the best athletes in the country. “
