Falcons begin play on Aug. 27
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Notre Dame Volleyball has released its 2010 schedule. The Falcons are slated to swing into action in August, starting with early season tournament play.
NDC will open their season, the program’s 31st season since being instituted in 1970 (NDC volleyball did not compete in 1978, 1980-87 and 1994), on Aug. 21 when they travel to Dearborn, Mich., to play in the Earlybird Tournament hosted by University of Michigan-Dearborn. The Falcons return to the court a few days later when they take on John Carroll.
The Falcons’ schedule includes 33 regular season games, running from Aug. 27 to Nov. 6.
The Blue & White will begin their American Mideast Conference (AMC) schedule on Sept. 21, when they travel to Walsh. The Falcons will play 10 conference matches, including five matches to be played at home.
Notre Dame is scheduled to open the home portion of their 2010 schedule on Sept. 7, when they host Lake Erie. The Falcons will host 11 games in Murphy Gymnasium. Overall, the 2009 calendar calls for 11 home games, 12 neutral site affairs, and 10 road tilts. The NDC home schedule also features one doubleheader against Rio Grande on Oct. 2.
“We think the schedule starts off with some challenging tournament play,” said Head Coach
Mark Ridley, who enters his seventh season at the helm of NDC volleyball. "We also have a good mix of non-conference games that should prepare for post-season play.”
The Falcons went 17-16 in 2009. Notre Dame finished the season tied for eighth in the AMC, with a 5-7 league mark. The Blue & White went 8-2 at home, 5-7 on the road, and 4-7 in neutral site games.
