Postgame Notes: NDC at Findlay

Noting the Falcons 43-42 loss on Saturday

GENERAL ...

Notre Dame is now 0-2 this season and 4-10 all-time on the road … 7-16 all-time on artificial turf … 3-9 in the month of September … 6-15 in day games … 4-2 when scoring 31 points or more … 1-15 when allowing 31 or more … 7-2 when outgaining the opponent in total yards … 1-2 in overtime games.

NDC was a minus-2 in turnover margin, marking the fourth straight game (all losses) that the Falcons have been a minus in the turnover ledger.  Notre Dame is now a minus-6 on the year.

The Falcons have now lost two overtimes; both have been by a one-point deficit.  NDC's other overtime defeat (24-23 score) came in the 2011 season opener (Sept. 3) at Mercyhurst (Pa.).

NDC maintained offensive possession for over 32 minutes (of 60 for the game), putting NDC on the plus-side of the possession battle for the first time since Sept. 8.  The Falcons were held to a combined 43 minutes over their previous two contests.


NOTING THE OFFENSE …

The NDC offense set single-game records for most pass completions (32) and most plays from scrimmage (96).  The Falcons' 322 passing yards are their second-most in a game (353).

Individually, new single-game records were set for pass completions (Ray Russ-32), receptions (Jack Foy-11) and receiving yards (Colton Wallace-129).

Running back Pedro Powell went over 150 yards rushing for the sixth time with his 162-yard performance.  Powell toted the ball 37 times, the second-highest total he has posted (39) in a single game.  The Liberty, Ohio, native scored three TDs in a game for the third time this season; in doing so he became the first Falcon to score 20 career TDs (he has now scored 22).  Powell has tallied 10 TDs this season (nine rushing, one receiving).

With two TD receptions in the game, wide receiver Colton Wallace has now hauled in six catches for scores this season.  That ties Wallace with Keifer Titus (2011) for the NDC single-season record for receiving touchdowns.  Wallace has made 19 catches this season.

Jack Foy caught 11 passes for 70 yards and a TD.  He leads te Falcons in receptions on the season, with 28.

Quarterback Ray Russ went 32-of-45 and has now posted single-game completion percentages over 70 percent in 3-of-5 games this season.  Russ has completed 65.6 percent (105-of-160) of his passes on the year.

The NDC offense went a combined 13-of-21 on third- and fourth-down conversions.  The Falcons went a much-improved 11-of-19 on third downs, and Notre Dame converted twice in as many attempts on fourth downs.

Three of Notre Dame's touchdown drives were of 75 yards or more.  NDC now has 13 such drives this season. … The Falcons had a 15-play, 80-yard drive in the fourth quarter.  The 15 plays mark the team's most in a drive this season.

NDC has now scored 23 offensive touchdowns this season.  Twelve of those have come on runs, and 11 have come on passes.


NOTING THE DEFENSE …

Notre Dame's linemen and linebackers were active on the line of scrimmage, piling up 10 tackles for losses and three sacks in the game.  The 10 TFLs tie the single-game program record. … The team's three sacks mark their first since the Aug. 30 opener.  Notre Dame now has seven sacks on the year.

Bob Hansen's two sacks marked his first since he terrorized opposing quarterbacks to the tune of a 10-1/2-sack season in 2010.  His four TFLs set a new single-game mark for the program.  Hansen has now collected 24-1/2 tackles for losses over his career.  NDC's veteran defensive end also had one of six NDC pass deflections in the contest.

Linebacker Anthony Berry posted career highs for tackles (10) and TFLs (three).

Cornerback Spencer Krebs had three pass break-ups in the game, which ties an NDC single-game mark.  One of those deflections broke up a potential TD pass at the goal line. … Krebs made 13 tackles in the game and now has 35 stops over NDC's last three games.

Linebacker Haakim Oliver made a career-high eight tackles, including his first career sack.

Strong safety Bo Grunder came up with NDC's only takeaway in the game, with a key interception late in the second quarter.  The play marked Grunder's third career pick; he made seven tackles in the game.

NDC held Findlay to a 3-of-12 mark on third downs.  The Falcons had come into Saturday's action having allowed foes to convert on 63 percent (35-of-56) of their attempts this season.


NOTING THE SPECIAL TEAMS …

NDC (0-for-1) and UF (3-for-5) combined to attempt six field goals in the game. 

With their misfire on an extra point in the game's second overtime, the Falcons have now missed four extra points this season.

Punter Rob Partridge averaged 39.0 yards per punt on five kicks.  Partridge put one inside the 20 and two more exactly at the 20-yard line.

NDC's coverage teams were burnt for three big plays in the game, with Findlay coming up with a 20-yard punt return and two kick returns of 48 yards or more.

Spencer Krebs and Chris Pitts each tallied two special-teams tackles in the game.

NDC averaged 16.2 yards per kick return, while UF averaged 30.2.


NOTING UF …

Senior running back Monterae Williams has now rushed for 3,703 yards in his Oiler career, and he's within earshot of the Findlay career record of 4,009 yards.

UF now has an all-time mark of 198-203-20 (.494) in games against Ohio programs.  NDC is 3-5 against teams hailing from the Buckeye State.

Findlay is now 6-2 in its last eight games at home.


ON DECK …

Notre Dame will host its annual Homecoming Game on Saturday, Oct. 6, when the Falcons take on the Lake Erie Storm in a 7 p.m. tilt at Korb Field.  LEC lost at Ashland, 68-21, on Saturday.  The Storm is thus far 0-5 on the year.
