Men's soccer falls to Wheeling Jesuit in MEC Semis

Box Score
SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- Playing in dreary conditions on a rainy, windy day at Normandy Field, the Notre Dame College men's soccer team squared off against the visiting Wheeling Jesuit Cardinals in the Mountain East Conference Semifinals. Despite a hard-fought effort, the second-seeded Falcons fell to the third-seeded Cardinals, losing by a final score of 2-0.

The match began with a physical presence from both sides, as both teams understood the importance of a win-or-go-home game. As the rain and wind picked up, so did the intensity from both sides as they pushed for the first goal of the game.

In the 21st minute, the Cardinals struck first as Daniel Undreiner scored with an assist from Sean Murphy, giving WJU a 1-0 lead midway through the first half.

The Falcons then pushed for the equalizing goal, but were unable to capitalize on offensive chances to tie the game.

As the first half began to wind down, the Cardinals scored another goal as Luke Roan found the back of the net in the 38th minute, using an assist from Aitor Iniguez De Heredia.

The Cardinals and Falcons went into halftime with the score in favor of WJU, 2-0.

In the second half, the weather began to take its toll even moreso on players from both sides. The Falcons increased their offensive opportunities as they continued to pressure the Cardinals defense, keeping possesion on WJU's end for a majority of the second half.

However, while the Falcons came close on a few different scoring chances, they couldn't quite find the back of the net. The Cardinals defense continued to stand tall, and the clock continued to run down, as the Cardinals came away with a 2-0 win over the Falcons.
