Drew signs with Notre Dame College men's soccer

9-year-old becomes newest member of the Falcon Flock

SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- In an unprecedented move, the Notre Dame College men's soccer program made history on Wednesday night by signing the top recruit in the country, nine-year-old Drew. The signing is now official after Drew and his parents signed a Letter of Intent on NDC's campus, making him the newest member of the Falcon Flock.

The NDC men's soccer coaching staff worked tirelessly in recent months in an effort to recruit and sign Drew to the squad. On Wednesday evening, Drew and his family gathered at the Falcon's Nest Student Center on campus to make the signing official.

Drew has been diagnosed with Angelman syndrome, which is often misdiagnosed as cerebral palsy, as the symptoms are similar. The 9-year-old stud was joined by his new teammates and coaches on Wednesday evening, who presented Drew with his new Falcons jersey and scarf.

Drew's jersey number matches his age, 9, as it is also his favorite number.

The NDC men's soccer team is already off to a 5-0 start to the 2015 season, and has now added even more talent to their roster by signing Drew. With his addition to the roster, the Falcons are truly a special team.

This "Signing Day" has been facilitated by Boston-based non-profit organization Team IMPACT, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses through the power of team. Team IMPACT children are drafted on to local college athletic teams and, in effect, become official members of the team from Signing Day through graduation. Team IMPACT children are often attending practices, games and social events with their team while forming unparalleled relationships with the student-athletes and coaching staffs.

NDC men's soccer will return to action on Sunday, Sept. 20 on the road against Urbana University. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
