Notre Dame edged by John Carroll in two-day invite
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The NDC women’s team missed out on a chance to capture the title at the Carroll Swim Classic by just two points on Saturday, as both Falcon teams placed second at the event. (Results)

Notre Dame’s men placed second in a three-team field, and the women’s squad placed second of four. The event, hosted by John Carroll University, closed out the first half of the Falcons’ season - NDC will now be on a break, including a winter training trip to Florida, until the second half of their season picks up on Jan. 16.

Greg Pristov led the men’s team with a performance that included four first-place finishes and three seconds. The NDC men tallied 755 points in 20 events over the two-day meet. The host Blue Streaks won the men’s competition with a score of 1,177 points. Malone finished third with 220 points.

Pristov’s seven-medal weekend included individual wins in the 100 Yard Butterfly, 200 Fly and 500 Free. Other contributors to Notre Dame’s success include Cameron McRae (three golds, three silvers) and Jacob Lutz (seven silvers).

On the women’s side, Notre Dame scored 1,076 points, just two shy of JCU’s 1,078. Malone finished third, with 243 points; Ursuline scored 87 points and placed fourth.

Lauryssa Rieger and Emily Whittington paced the Falcons - they each garnered four golds and two silvers on the day. Both earned three individual gold medals over the two days of competition at John Carroll.

“[Not winning] was frustrating,” said Head Coach Mike Gallagher. “The girls came so close; we should’ve won the meet. But all in all there were a lot of positives for us this weekend, some things that set us up for a really good scond half.”
